The workshop will be held Friday, July 19, 2019, from 8:30 am-5:00 pm at the East Tennessee History Museum (601 S. Gay St., Knoxville, TN). Registration begins at 8:30 am. Workshop begins at 9 am.
Attendees can choose from the following sessions:
Morning session (9:00 am-Noon)
Books for birth to 6th grade
In the morning, we’ll feature Julie Danielson on award-winning children’s picture books. Then we’ll feature buzz-worthy children’s picture books that can help teachers and librarians meet the new state standards in content areas. And then we’ll present on high-interest children’s picture books, grades 3-6.
Lunchtime workshop (Noon-1:30 pm)
“Building text sets with high-quality children’s picture book biographies to meet social studies standards” Facilitated by Professor Deborah Wooten
Cost: $15 with boxed lunch included (vegetarian options available); $5 without lunch
Learn how to build a text set to meet the new K-5 social studies standards with high-quality children’s picture biographies.
Afternoon session (1:30 pm-4:30 pm)
Books for 6th grade through 12th grade
In the afternoon, we’ll feature nonfiction for grades 6-12, speculative fiction/fantasy YA, contemporary/realistic YA, and graphic novels.
Browsing and mingling time (4:30 pm-5:00 pm)
We’ll end our day with time for you to look more closely at all of the books that have been presented throughout the day’s workshop, along with other notable books from our collection. We will be available to take your questions, and we encourage you to network with new friends and catch up with others.
Book sale (all day)
Union Ave. Books will be on hand selling most of the titles our presenters recommend.
The CCYAL will also be selling books that are rotating out of The Center. These books are a great way to update your collection while supporting the CCYAL’s efforts to bring authors to our area.
